Yang-Tsai style vase with Patterns of Melons, Butterflies and Plum Blossoms

Qing Dynasty (QIANLONG PERIOD)It is 30cm tall with a 6.6cm mouth diameter and 11cm base diameter.The vase has a narrow mouth, short neck and white shoulder. The shape narrows down from the shoulder onwards and the six words “DA QING QIAN LONG NIAN ZHI” is written in blue and white at the bottom of the vase.The inside and outer bottom if turquoise-glazed and the edge of the mouth is decorated in gold. The body of the vase is painted with melons of differing sizes. The painting is made up of vines and butterflies. The large melon is called “瓜(GUA)” and the same one is called “瓞(DIE)”. The vines intertwine with each other which implies the growing offspring of the future.

 

 

洋彩瓜蝶梅瓶

清乾隆。
高 30 厘米，口径 6.6 厘米，足径 11 厘米。
小口，短颈，丰肩，肩以下渐收敛，底以青花书“大清乾隆年制”六字三行篆书款。瓶内、外底施松石绿釉，口沿饰金彩。瓶外通景绘瓜瓞绵绵图。由瓜蔓及蝴蝶组成，大的叫瓜，小的叫瓞，瓜蔓缠绕，末端结实，寓连绵不断，子孙万代之意。
